EEOC Plans Hearing on Criminal Histories
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is planning a major
hearing on employer use of criminal histories on July 26.
The EEOC has been active this year in examining issues it believes result in
a"disparate" impact on hiring decisions. The Commission held a hearing
recently on the use of credit checks as an impediment to hiring.
NCISS will be working with other business groups to inform the Commission of
the continuing need for access to criminal records. Last year this coalition
was able to prevent enactment of legislation in Congress which would have
limited the ability to obtain credit reports. NCISS has lobbied against
restrictions that deny employers the information they need to make informed
hiring decisions. We have also shared information with our business allies.
We will keep you informed as more information becomes available about the
upcoming hearing.
Keeping the profession informed,
