Senate Majority Leader introduced Cybersecurity Bill S-21

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) yesterday introduced S-21, the "Cyber Security and American Cyber Competitiveness Act". The bill includes a call for Congress to enact legislation to protect against cyber attacks, but also protect against identity theft and data breaches and protect online privacy.

This bill does not include any actual requirements of law, but includes a "sense of congress" provision which lays out what Congress ought to do. S-21 is noteworthy because it was introduced by the majority leader and is cosponsored by powerful committee chairmen with jurisdiction over privacy issues, including both Judiciary Committee Chairman Leahy (D-VT) and Commerce Committee Chairman Rockefeller (D-WV). Clearly, the Democratic leadership is making this a high priority issue. We will be meeting with the principals involved in this legislation. Here is a link to the bill:
