White House Creates Interagency Privacy Group
The White House National
Science and Technology Committee has established an interagency subcommittee
on Privacy and Internet Policy.
In its announcement Sunday,
the Committee said the purpose of the new subcommittee will be to "develop
principles and strategic directions with the goal of fostering consensus in
legislative, regulatory and international Internet policy realms."
Representatives of more than a dozen federal departments will serve on the
Subcommittee.
Assistant Attorney General
Christopher Schroeder and Department of Commerce General Counsel Cameron
Kerry will chair the Subcommittee. In launching the new group, they said
they intend to work with private stakeholders as they endeavor to "strike
the appropriate balance between the privacy expectations of consumers and
the needs of industry, law enforcement, and other public safety governmental
entities, and other Internet stakeholders."
NCISS will provide input to
the subcommittee as it develops its agenda. |
